Frequently asked questions.
Do We Kill The Bees We Remove?
We love bees and we love having them making honey for us in our apiary. Our goal is always to come away from an interaction with a new live colony of honey bees. We carefully remove bees so that they can be brought to a place where we can take care of them and they can produce honey for us.
How Much Does Bee Removal Cost?
Bees are valuable to us and if you don’t want them we are happy to take them off your hands. Swarm removals are always free. Established colonies that require cut outs involve a lot more time and labor. For hive removal we charge an hourly rate plus the materials required to repair any damage incurred by removing the hive completely.
Are you insured?
Yes we are fully insured specifically for honey bee removal.
How Long Does Removal Take?
This totally depends on the location of the hive and the difficulty or lack thereof in reaching the hive. We’ve been on site for hours and we’ve been in and out in minutes. Because bees are typically coming and going from both hives and swarms we always try to leave the collected bees in their new box on site until dark. This allows us to collect the complete hive and not leave any bees wondering where their colony went.
Are There Licenses For Bee Removal?
In Maine the only license that the state issues related to pest removal is one for the use of pesticides. We take a strong anti-pesticide position in our business and lives and so this is a license we do not hold or require.
Can You Remove Wasps, Hornets or Other Pests?
Unfortunately not. As explained in the previous line we are not licensed as exterminators. We always recommend trying to find a way to peacefully coexist with insects in your environment. That being said, if it cannot be helped we recommend you contact a licensed exterminator. We only want honey bees and they’re the only ones who want us to take them!
